General Information

Teaching Pods

Our school is structured in two teaching pods, Pihinga (New Entrant - Year 3) and Māhuri (Year 4 - 6).  We value strong relationships and transitions as ākonga move through the school.

Stationery

All children are provided with a stationery pack when they start the school year. These come at no cost to families as they are covered by the Ministry of Education donation scheme.  Replacement stationery throughout the year is also covered.

Sun Smart

We are a sun smart school with hats required to be worn in Terms 1 and 4. Sunscreen is encouraged and provided in these terms and we make the most of the wonderful, natural shade within our school.

Car Park

The school car park is for staff parking only and is not a safe place for pedestrians or suitable for drop offs.

Visitors to School

Entry into the school between the hours of 9.15am and 2.45pm is via the school office where visitors are required to sign in.

Bicycles & Scooters

The school recommends only year 5 & 6 children ride bicycles to school as younger children do not have the skills or peripheral vision required to keep safe, however, many parents choose to accompany their younger children which is encouraged.

All cyclists MUST wear helmets and we strongly recommend that these are checked regularly to ensure they are in good condition.

Children are to walk their scooters and bikes when crossing the road and entering the school.

Safe Practices for Getting to School

Tōtara Park is a great community to walk in and we encourage parents to practice a safe route to school with their children.

School Crossing Patrols operate at the beginning and end of each day. It is important that both children and adults cross on the designated crossings on Turon Ave and California Drive.
